So Magda is definitely not the only person we met at church on Sunday but she has the most interesting name. To start from the beginning.... After a Sunday of not feeling well we made it out for our first time at church hunting. We have started with North Stafford Church of Christ which according to their website boasts about 250 members but I would say it is probably closer to size Perkins was about 2 years ago. We later found out that there are a good number of TBS and newer Marine families that come through often and then move soon just as we will be doing.
At this point I would like to insert my own opinion and say how happy I am that Perkins did NOT build a metal building! Don't get me wrong it is quite nice inside but not the most inviting facade. Now then off my soap box and moving on.
The auditorium is set up almost in the round which is a little uncomfortable when you come in after announcements have started and everyone KNOWs that you are new. Next was the involvement of the female ministers they did the announcements and a high school girl led a prayer for communion. Non of these are bad things just not what we are use to. After church I was pleased to see Wyatt moving slowly toward the door to allow others to introduce themselves, and did they. We were quickly stopped by a late 20's young lady from across the room and then by and early 30's girl named Angie who is in the Marine Corps band. As we talked Magda and her husband and Angie's husband Brian all came to talk. (Magda is pronounced Mogda, she's Polish!) Everyone was VERY nice and we were quickly invited to lunch at the small Poncho Villa which apparently is much better than the big one further down the road. We had a great time and I found out a lot about where to go for good shopping movies and hopefully some good resale stores for baby furniture. I'll get back to you on that one.
After a rewarding Sunday of church and meeting new people Monday was hopeful as it was to be our first experience at couponing! The new show on TLC has pushed the subject more into the forefront of my mind but it is something that is a necessity at this time. The thing with couponing though is that you still need to have a good amount of money at first because you're not going to walk in for the first time and walk out with $200 worth of groceries for on;y $5. However, I think we did very well for our first time! We went through the Bloom weekly sales and compared it to the coupons we picked up from the circulars. Next we decided what we needed and what we were just going to look at. There is no reason to by something just because you have a coupon especially if it isn't on sale as well. Once we arrived we printed off a few more instore coupons and began our new adventure. The one thing we realized was that we needed to go through sooner because there are many more couponers here and the stores may not be able to keep up with us all. We learned this the hard way as some of the really good deals were all gone. For instance we had a coupon for $1 off a 24 pack of water that had already been marked down by $1 but when we got there..... they were all gone :-( By the time we had finished walking around the store we had a cart that vaguly reminded me of trips to Sam's with mom. Next the check out. She scanned everything and the total was in the lower $200s, a little nervous I must say but then you scan your rewards card and watched the instore deals drop the price, a little more relief. Finally you hand over the stack of coupons and down the price comes! By the end we had saved $75 got a free bag of shrimp and came home with 3 more coupons from the store which included $10 dollars off our next purchase!!! Needless to say we were very proud of our first trip and we have enough food to hold us for quite a long time.
Million Dollar Baby. The parent company of Davinci the maker of our baby Zoey's crib. We had a little situation pop up last week that prevented us from being able to put together her soon to be resting place. Wyatt sent them a message and they said they would take care of it within 7 days but we had not given them any information other than our address and they did not send a tracking number or explanation of WHAT they were doing so when 7 days came and went we were a little nervous but after returning from our boring doctors appointment we were pleasantly surprised to hear the door bell ring a long box sitting on the porch! Yay we can finally finish here bed!
It was a little more difficult this time as I have now unpacked her room and the items are in piles around the room awaiting a storage unit to place them in. The other difficulty.... we lost the instructions.... I was starting to think we weren't meant to have this crib. We finally found the instructions online and were able to put the rest of it together without too many issues. We have to work on the drawer because the screws they sent are not flat head and therefore the wheels keep catching but overall it is put together and awaiting the bedding from my loving mother and it's furture occupant.
Speaking of little occupants I would like to say congratulations to Stacey, Dusty and big brother Landon as they welcomed Logan Lee into the world yesterday! He's a handsome one and I wish I could be there to see him in person.
I know I have to get better at putting this info in more often so these aren't so long but I have to let you know what's going on! I hope all is well with everyone and I will write again soon. We plan to get pictures of Zoey's room soon but until this afternoon there wasn't anything to see.
Love you all!

BOO!
ReplyDeleteVeerwy Interwesting, I've already written something similar to this once, tried to send it & it disappeared--lost in cyber-space.
ReplyDeleteWhere did those DC CoCers (& probably other East Coasters) get the idea that women folks could do stuff in Church besides laugh, cry, smile, hold babies, sing & fan with fold-up paper fans? Do they know where to draw the line? Do they walk the line? They're probably on to the coming CoC thing.
I'm happy that you appear to be taking up the coupon habit; it could lead to a lifetime of savings & adventure. It would be interesting to know after some random period of time (such as a lifetime) how much your savings are(were), how much money you had to spend to save the savings, how much time you spent saving the savings & how much extra transportation costs there were to save the savings. Then you could write a book & maybe call it "Magda, Monday, Million Dollar Baby & Mega Money Coupon Management"
The BOO message was only a test--only a test.
